At the outset, to be a success, a structure must fit within the land and the land must be coordinated with the structure. In it’s simplest form, a landscape or a garden begins by organizing the shape of the land and how it serves a function. With these basic bones in place, which begin to delineate an “edge and a pattern”, a landscape is born even if plants materials have yet to be installed and mature, or if structures are not yet in place. It is then fleshed out with garden structures, furniture, and verdant plant materials which further add function and usefulness as well as style and beauty.
